Dignity Kitchen Faces Slow Business, Singaporeans Turn Up In Drove To Show Kampung Spirit

Residents of Boon Keng might be familiar with Dignity Kitchen, an eatery that employs differently-abled staff.

But as inspiring as their business model is, it seems the recently tightened Covid-19 measures have hit their business hard.

On Monday (27 Sep), the day on which ‘stabilising measures’ kicked in, Dignity Kitchen took to Facebook to share about their lack of customers.

Amid these troubling times, we’re heartening to see that the kampung spirit remains alive.

Dignity Kitchen struggles with slow business

People with disabilities may have their limitations, but Dignity Kitchen proves that they can still manage daily operations and serve delicious local fare.

However, like many restaurants during the Covid-19 pandemic, their business has also been slow.

In a Facebook post on Monday (27 Sep), Dignity Kitchen shared a photo showing a number of empty tables and with only one seated customer.

Even as business came to a trickle, their differently-abled cashiers and SafeEntry staff patiently waited for customers to arrive.

As a show of support, Singaporeans were encouraged to stop by to grab muffins or simply a cup of tea or coffee. The post has garnered more than 1,700 shares at the time of this article.

Not surprisingly, folks from Dignity Kitchen were extremely touched by the turnout and took to Facebook again to thank the customers.

Thankful for the support

The Covid-19 pandemic has had severe effects on our F&B sector, and Dignity Kitchen is clearly no exception.

We are grateful for Singaporeans who turned up in droves to support the business and their noble cause of employing differently-abled staff.

If you or anyone you know live around the vicinity, do head down to patronise the establishment.
