Disneyland May Be Built In Malacca By 2027, Claims Heritage & Culture Committee Chairman

State Heritage & Culture Committee Chairman Claims Disneyland Is Coming To Malacca In 2027

The chairman of Malacca’s State Heritage and Culture Committee announced on Tuesday (15 Nov) that a Disneyland and Disney City will be built in the state come 2027.

It’ll be the first Disneyland in Southeast Asia, meaning people in the region need not travel to Japan, China or the United States to see Mickey and his friends.

While he didn’t reveal the exact location, he shared that the theme park will likely measure 60.7ha to 80.9ha, the largest in the region.

Disneyland in Malacca to help reach tourist goals

According to Buletin TV3, State Heritage and Culture Committee chairman Muhammad Jailani Khamis said the project will cost around S$600 million (RM2 billion).

Even though it might not be so large, I feel that it will be more than enough to live up to the Disneyland name, which is an achievement that we’re bringing to our shores.

He expects the theme park to add to the goal of achieving 20 million tourists in a year, in three years.

The state will also reportedly be constructing a 22km-long Maglev transportation system to connect the theme park to tourist spots in Malacca.

Malaysia Disneyland & Disney City will be first in SEA

While there are Disneyland resorts in the United States, China, Hong Kong, Japan, and Paris, there have been none in Southeast Asia — until now.

Whether you’re a Disney fanatic and have visited every Disney resort globally or have yet to visit, the news should be exciting for not just Malaysians but also Singaporeans and others in Southeast Asia.

No confirmation from Disney yet

As exciting as the prospect may be, however, Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products (DPEP) has yet to corroborate the news, as Soya Cincau pointed out.

Their latest factsheet only covers additions to existing attractions in Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Tokyo, with no mentions of Malaysia.

Interestingly, Malaysian news site New Straits Times’ article about the theme park’s construction in Malacca has also ceased to be accessible.

MS News has reached out to Disney for comments and will update the article accordingly when they get back.

EDITOR’S NOTE: A previous version of this article implied that the construction of the theme park is confirmed. However, in light of the absence of an official announcement from Disney, we’ve edited the article to reflect the uncertainty.
