It’s clear that Singapore and its people are suffering dearly from the economic impact of Covid-19.
From losing jobs to slower business, many have been struggling financially during this pandemic.
Minister for Social and Family Development Desmond Lee took to Facebook to share how the government and community would help those hit hard by Covid-19, especially the lower income groups.
The Courage Fund will be increasing its income cap to help more individuals and families who are affected by Covid-19.
Mr Lee announced that more individuals and families who have been “badly” affected by Covid-19 would be eligible for financial aid with Courage Fund’s new income cap.
The income ceiling was raised to $6,200 per month for households, or $2,000 per person each month. Previously, the ceiling was $3,900 per month for households, or $1,350 per person each month.
More families and individuals who have been affected by Stay-Home Notices or quarantine, and were thus unable to work, can benefit from the increased income cap.
This will be effective as of 1 Jun.
Households with “extenuating circumstances” will also be able to receive support from Courage Fund. They must first be assessed by Social Service Offices.
Additionally, Mr Lee mentioned that ComCare had been enhanced to better provide for vulnerable families.
The Courage Fund was started as a fundraising initiative to support those who were affected by SARS in 2003. As part of the Community Chest, it depends on Singaporeans’ donations.
They have received over $13.6 million in donations, which allowed them to extend their help to more families and individuals.
If you want to help, you can donate to their cause here. For more information on the help schemes, you can refer here.
