S’porean Teen Basketballer Scores Clutch 3-Pointer For APAC Team At Jr. NBA Championship

Jayson Tan Played In The Jr. NBA Global Championship

As far as sports are concerned, Singapore has produced her fair share of elite athletes of late, from Joseph Schooling who clinched Singapore’s first Olympic gold, to Soh Rui Yong, who brought home consecutive gold medals at the SEA Games marathon event.

And if recent results and performances are anything to go by, we may soon see the first Singaporean to join the prestigious National Basketball Association (NBA).

Jayson Tan, a Singaporean teen who’s still a lower-secondary student, was recently selected to play at the Jr. NBA Global Championship.

In their latest match, Jayson scored a clutch 3-pointer for Team Asia-Pacific (APAC) and secured a shock victory against the US South Team.

His performance propelled him to stardom, with some saying that he has the potential to become the first Singaporean to join the NBA.

Jayson Tan is one of the top youth basketballers in Asia-Pacific

Earlier this year, Jason was selected to represent Singapore in the Jr. NBA Global Championship Asia Pacific (APAC) Selection Camp.

There, Jayson was scouted as one of the top 10 players and was chosen to play for Team Asia Pacific at the Jr. NBA Global Championship held in Florida from 6 to 11 Aug.

The Jr. NBA Global Championship is a basketball tournament for youth players who are 13-14 years old from around the world.

Jayson is the only Singaporean in the APAC team and is joined by other elite youth basketballers from the region.
