Johor Checkpoint Opening Hours Shortened, Returnees Advised To Travel Via 2nd Link

Johor Checkpoint Is Normally Open 24 Hours A Day

Prior to the Covid-19 outbreak, some Singaporeans might occasionally travel into Johor Bahru (JB) for supper with friends or family as the checkpoint is open 24/7.

That is, of course, not possible now, as the Movement Control Order (MCO) is currently in effect.

On Tuesday (21 Apr), Malaysia’s Senior Minister for Security Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri announced that the Johor Checkpoint Building’s opening hours will soon be shortened to 7am-7pm.

Johor Checkpoint open from 7am-7pm daily from 24 Apr

According to Malaysian news site China Press, the senior minister made the comment during a live press conference today (21 Apr).

While the building operates 24/7 normally, it’ll only be open from 7am-7pm starting this Friday (24 Apr).

Even though the Johor Checkpoint Building – also known as the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex – will no longer be open 24 hours a day, operations at the second link will not be affected.

Hence, Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri urged Malaysians to travel via the Second Link instead if they need to return urgently.

He added that the number of returnees has fallen of late, with roughly 400 Malaysians returning from Singapore daily over the past 4 days, reports China Press.

Share this with those who plan on returning to Malaysia

If you know a friend or family member in Singapore who plans on returning to Malaysia, share this article with them so they know which checkpoint to head to.

As the number of people travelling between the 2 countries decreases during this period, perhaps it only makes sense for the Malaysian authorities to shorten the checkpoint’s operating hours to save on their operating expenses.
