‘Circuit Breaker’ Extended Till 1 Jun For 4 More Weeks With More Workplace Closures

‘Circuit Breaker’ To Be Extended For 4 More Weeks Beyond 4 May

As we enter the 15th day of the ‘Circuit Breaker’ on Tuesday (21 Apr), Singapore continues to see a rise in Covid-19 cases living in Workers’ Dormitories.

That same evening, PM Lee addressed the nation once again. During the speech, PM Lee announced that the ‘Circuit Breaker’ will be extended for 4 more weeks until 1 June.

This came just hours after the Ministry of Health reported 1,111 new cases of Coivd-19.

Existing measures will be tightened

During the extended period, PM Lee said the authorities will be clamping down on the community cases more “decisively” by tightening on existing measures.

More workplaces that are not deemed essential will also be closed.

An example of this includes grass-cutting services at HDB areas, which PM Lee said might be less frequent.

Additionally, PM Lee said that hotspots like wet markets remain problematic as large groups of visitors continue to gather there.

Singaporeans cannot be complacent

PM Lee also said that while the ‘Circuit Breaker’ had successfully brought down the number of local cases, Singaporeans cannot be complacent.

In particular, the number of unlinked cases has not been reduced. This suggests that there might still be a “hidden reservoir” of cases in the community.
