A user captured a video of a king cobra eating another snake at the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve.
The incident occurred on Sunday, 3 Nov.
Ms Joanne Toh told MS News that at 2pm, a wildlife enthusiast regular at Sungei Buloh called her about spotting a king cobra.
She arrived in the area at around 3pm and followed it around. Ms Toh said sometimes she would follow the snake around for over two hours with nothing caught.
This time, however, the cobra caught a dog-faced water snake after 30 minutes on the prowl. These reptiles are commonly spotted in muddy wetlands feeding on fish.
The cobra then ate its catch whole. In the video, it could be seen slowly gulping down the smaller snake.
The snake-eat-snake encounter surprised one commenter. Another netizen said that king cobras are snake eaters and even practice cannibalism.
Ms Toh told MS News that she had seen a king cobra eating snakes at Sungei Buloh several times before.
She said it usually did not take long for the cobra to devour its lengthy catches.
Ms Toh added that the king cobra was not that big, only around two metres long.
The video wowed the animal lovers on the SG Wildlife Sightings Facebook group, giving praise for capturing the encounter.
Several others in the area saw the cobra catching and eating the water snake as well. They uploaded their own angles to the Facebook group too.
