Over the past week, Liverpool Football Club (LFC) has been in Singapore as part of the team’s preseason schedule — much to the excitement of diehard fans.
Some fans, though, have been a little too enthusiastic for the players’ taste, as a TikTok video showed recently.
A woman posted footage of Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson urging fans to stop pushing as they jostled to get his autograph.
He received praise for his actions online, with many pointing out that such behaviour could be dangerous in a packed stadium.
Taking to TikTok, user @fyqaaharsh posted a video of the incident that occurred at the Singapore National Stadium.
The footage started by showing Robertson with a visibly irritated expression as he signed fans’ jerseys.
He then told them to “stop f**king pushing”, after which a man in the background audibly reprimanded others for jostling around. Apparently, there were children in the crowd, and the player was likely concerned for their safety.
Gesturing to those in front, Robertson continued to urge them to be careful and refrain from pushing.
Fortunately, he seemed to have largely kept his calm amid the chaos to attend to most fans.
In a follow-up video, the OP revealed that she had successfully received a signed jersey from him.
MS News has reached out to the OP for more information.
Since it was posted on TikTok, the video has gone viral, with over 1 million views. Many users praised Robertson for his reaction to the situation.
A few of them said he had earned their respect for telling fans to stay calm and stop shoving each other.
After all, the situation could have been potentially disastrous had he not stepped in.
There were those who even said he deserved the captain’s armband for his actions.
Although most people tend to frown upon the use of explicit language, viewers seemed to take it light-heartedly, joking that it was the Scottish in Robertson.
With the Singapore Festival of Football coming to an end, we hope everyone has had an enjoyable experience at the events.
However, this incident is a reminder for us of the need to be cautious, especially in a packed area.
Kudos to Robertson for ensuring that fans gave each other enough space to avoid a crowd crush. Hopefully, members of the public will take this as a lesson to exercise more patience in similar events.
