Singapore is generally safe and most of us are assured that this is the case. Although at times there will be cases of violence, the good thing is that they are usually dealt with speedily.
Police said on Sunday (6 Jun) that a 48-year-old man was arrested for allegedly attacking 4 people with a knife at Bukit Merah.
He was believed to be under the influence of drugs.
2 men and 2 women were taken to the hospital.
Apparently, the victims do not know the attacker.
In a public statement, police said that they responded to the attack at a flat along 2 Jalan Bukit Merah Road at around 6.06am on Sunday (6 Jun).
They mentioned that they arrested the man at the scene for voluntarily causing grievous hurt with a dangerous weapon.
Substances believed to be drugs were seized, along with the knife that the man used, as well as a chopper and 2 penknives.
The man is said to have a history of mental conditions and may have been under the influence of drugs, according to the statement.
Police believe the man acted alone.
In a further update to the incident, police said a 59-year-old woman with blood-stained hands approached patrolling police officers on the ground floor of 2 Jalan Bukit Merah.
Upon her urging, the officers proceeded to a residential unit on the 2nd floor of the block.
The 48-year-old man was subdued and arrested by officers at the scene.
He’d allegedly entered the unit while the residents were asleep and attacked 2 female tenants with a knife.
2 male tenants then responded to the women’s cries for help and tried to subdue the man.
Another tenant, a 31-year-old man, escaped from the unit to seek help from officers on patrol nearby. He was not injured.
The 4 victims include 2 men and 2 women and are aged between 19-59.

According to preliminary investigations, there’s no suggestion that this was an act of terror.
The man has been traced for several drug offences since 1991, and his last release from prison was 6 Oct.
Investigations are still ongoing.
Police noted that they have stepped up enhanced patrols in the vicinity of the incident.
