McChicken-Stealing Man Who Flashed A Toa Payoh Resident Jailed For Over 1 Year

McChicken-Stealing Man Also Stole $5 From An 11-Year-Old

From a sword-wielding man at a heartland kopitiam to an erratic Ferrari driver who endangered lives at Orchard Road, our courts have seen their fair share of unusual offences brought before them this year.

But as the year draws to a close, there appears to be another lawbreaker who may just have committed the weirdest crimes of 2018.

That offender is none other than 47-year-old Shanker Channa Tambi, who was jailed on Wednesday (12 Dec) for his slew of erratic offences.

Here’s what he did.

Stole McChicken burgers from passer-by

In most cases, nothing much.

But if you’re referring to the case on 19 Oct last year at Toa Payoh Lorong 4, then things might be slightly different.

You see, in the wee hours that day, Shanker stole 2 McChicken burgers from a passer-by who was waiting to cross the road.

After the incident, the victim called the police and Shanker was found nearby within just 40 minutes.

As the cops were arresting Shanker for his theft, he swore not once, but thrice at the men in blue, which led to another charge being brought against him.

Exposed private parts drunkenly

Shanker was up to no good again just 2 weeks later.

Under the influence of alcohol, the 47-year-old drunkenly flashed his private parts to another passer-by at 4pm on 1 Nov 2017.

Coincidentally, this happened in Toa Payoh as well.

Stole $5 from an 11-year-old

On 17 Oct this year, Shanker stole $5 from an 11-year-old boy who was eating at the famous Scissors Cut Curry Rice along Jalan Besar.

$5 may not seem like a large sum of money, but it was his execution that was shocking.

At around 5.40pm that day, the 11-year-old was eating alone and left his wallet lying on the table.

Along came Shanker, who told the boy “change, change” and casually took $5 from the child’s wallet.

When the boy called out for him, he muttered “change, change” once again, before he placed the wallet on the table and left.

After the traumatic encounter, the boy called the police with the help of a passer-by.

Thanks to the eatery’s CCTV footage, the 47-year-old was arrested at 7.50pm that day.

To date, no one understands what he meant by “change, change”.

Other offences committed

Apart from the crimes above, here are other offences that Shanker committed in 2017 and 2018.

  • 3 Oct 2017: Forcefully kissed woman and swore at police
  • 28 Jan 2018: Stole pillow case from a HDB unit
  • 15 Jun 2018: Struck passers-by on the head, spat on 2 policemen, and tested positive for drugs.

Turning over a new leaf

For his crimes, Shanker will be jailed for 14 months and 3 weeks.

Let’s hope Shanker turns over a new leaf, both for his sake and for other McChicken lovers as well.
