The McDonald’s outlet at Raffles City, which used to stand right by an entrance to the mall, has closed down.
According to Google, the closure is permanent, although McDonald’s Singapore has yet to confirm this.
In its place are signs indicating the upcoming opening of an Italian restaurant sometime in the second quarter of 2024.
Images shared with MS News show that the fast food restaurant’s premises have been boarded up completely.
A quick check on Google also shows that the store has closed down permanently.
In response to MS News’ queries, a McDonald’s spokesperson confirmed the outlet’s closure. They said: “We would have loved to continue our presence at Raffles City, having had the pleasure and privilege of serving our customers for 14 years. To mark our closure, we even had a rousing closing party to thank our fans for the great memories together. Our nearby McDonald’s Funan and Marina Square restaurants continue to warmly welcome our customers to enjoy their favourites with us.”
Signages on the boards surrounding the premises state that Casa Vostra, a restaurant specialising in Italian cuisine, will replace the eatery in the second quarter of 2024.
Chef Antonio Miscellaneo of Casa Vostra told MS News that the brand is thrilled to secure a prime location with high footfall.
The Raffles City outlet will be its first permanent one, after having done a limited-time physical pop-up at Ann Siang Hill in Nov and Dec 2023.
If renovations go to plan, Casa Vostra’s targeted opening will be sometime in June 2024.
Commenting on the upcoming opening, Chef Antonio said: “We are super excited for this new chapter in the Casa Vostra journey from a delivery concept to what we envision will be a go-to for quality yet accessible Italian food with its first permanent physical store.”
The McDonald’s outlet at Raffles City hasn’t been the only outlet under the fast food franchise to close down in recent months.
In January, the McDonald’s outlet at Lucky Plaza shuttered after 34 years of operation.
