Every now and then, food courts have been known to charge customers exorbitant prices. Due to a combination of costly dishes, diners may have to fork out more than expected.
This was the case at Jewel Changi, where a customer had to pay S$13 for nasi padang at a food court.
Calling it unacceptable, she said the eatery should have had a menu for her to check for the prices of its dishes.
Speaking to STOMP, the woman shared that she visited Food Republic at Jewel Changi on Friday (28 Apr).
She had patronised a nasi padang stall, selecting one rice, two vegetables and two meat dishes.
From an image shared with STOMP, the vegetables appeared to be long beans and bitter gourd, while the meat seemed to be ikan bilis and a chicken drumstick.
However, to her dismay, the price of her meal came up to a staggering S$13. While the rice and vegetables were S$1 and S$3, respectively, the meat cost S$9.
Calling it unacceptable, she said she never realised dining at a food court had become so expensive.
“It looks like the food court should have a menu for you to check the price before picking the food,” she added.
Of course, this isn’t the first time customers’ complaints of exorbitant pricing at food courts have made the headlines.
In March, a diner said he had to pay S$16 for cai png at a food court in Marina Bay Sands.
Netizens then pointed out that the pricing was due to the location of the eatery, with the tenant of the stall incurring a penalty for giving an insufficient food portion.
A similar incident occurred in January with Power 98 DJ Jerald Justin Ko, who purchased mutton biryani at a food court in Gardens By The Bay.
He had to fork out S$29 for his meal, which comprised a plate of biryani rice with three pieces of lamb.
