12 New Red-Light Cameras Will Operate By Mar 2020

More stringent traffic rules in Singapore have been keeping road users in check recently.

Adding on to these measures, authorities will be installing new red-light cameras around to clamp down on any errant motorists.

They help to reduce the number of vehicles beating red lights, which will hopefully lead to fewer traffic incidents on Singapore’s roads.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) confirmed that 12 locations around Singapore will have these new red-light cameras.

According to the infographic by MHA, many of the new red-light cameras will be along roads with seemingly little traffic.

Motorists who’ve gotten away with beating the red light at any of these spots just because the coast is clear may now want to think twice.

Making Singapore roads safer

While the new cameras may be bad news for some, they’re necessary to ensure all road users’ safety, motorists and pedestrians alike.

Anyone who flouts traffic rules and beats the red lights will most certainly have no way of escaping once the cameras are in operation.

Under the revised road traffic act, motorists who beat the red light will earn 12 demerit points and face a $400 to $500 fine depending on their vehicle type.

Those are pretty heavy punishments, so we’d suggest being extra cautious while you’re on the road.

Remembering all of them would be impossible, however, so just remember to slow down whenever you approach a traffic light.
