Lo-fi has been scientifically proven to be a calming agent for listeners, thus making for good background tracks for studying and work.
For the uninitiated, Lo-fi is defined by Google to be “a music or production quality in which elements usually regarded as imperfections of a recording or performance are audible, sometimes as a deliberate aesthetic choice”.
Well, if you don’t know what it is, now is the time to give it a listen, as a new artiste has risen in the scene to calm people during the Covid-19 global pandemic — and his name is Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
Rice Media uploaded a video to their YouTube channel titled “lo-fi LHL beats to keep calm/fight covid-19 to” on Friday (20 Mar).
Intrigued, we gave it a listen, and we were not disappointed.
The video is 15 minutes of the most feel-good phrases from PM Lee’s speeches on Covid-19, backed with a lulling tropical lo-fi beat.
The video was even on brand with many lo-fi music videos, with PM Lee against the backdrop of SG landmarks such as the Merlion, overlayed with an RGB static filter.
“We’ve done well” and “there’s every reason to be confident” were just some things he said that were music to our ears.
There’s something about hearing our Prime Minister say, “I think if we work together, we can overcome this challenge” to a bluesy rhythm that really makes us feel like we can overcome the whole pandemic situation.
Just as the title suggests, if you are feeling panicky after hearing the daily number of confirmed cases, perhaps you could listen to it to calm your nerves.
Kudos to the Rice Media Team for producing such a bop and providing some relaxation amid the chaos of Covid-19.
