If you find the above statement familiar, that’s because it mirrors Mediacorp’s previous apology, almost to the point of parody.

Apologised for unintentionally causing hurt

In the statement, the pair said they were sorry “for any hurt that was unintentionally caused”.

They claimed that the video was meant to drive home the point that there must be equal opportunities for everyone in Singapore.

They also explained why “K. Muthusamy” was chosen as the face of the music video,

K. Muthusamy, well known for his ability to address privilege, power and censorship in a single production in a light-hearted way, was selected as the face of this music video.

Preetipls’s apology mirror’s Mediacorp and Havas’ statement

If you have not noticed, the statement by Preetipls and her brother was written in a way that mirrors the statement put out by Havas Worldwide and Mediacorp last week.

Here’s their joint statement:

The message behind this advertising campaign is that e-payment is for everyone.

For that reason, Dennis Chew, well-known for his ability to portray multiple characters in a single production in a light-hearted way, was selected as the face of the campaign. He appears as characters from different walks of life in Singapore, bringing home the point that everyone can e-pay.

We’re sorry for any hurt that was unintentionally caused. Behind the ad is an initiative to provide greater convenience to consumers, merchants and small food businesses.

No, you’re not seeing double.

Hope the saga will be resolved soon

Whether or not Preetipls and her brother were sincere about their apology, racial harmony is something vital to Singapore and we hope the entire ‘brownface’ will be resolved soon.
