S’porean Charity Hands Out Ready-To-Eat Packets To The Underprivileged This Ramadan

Free Food For All Creates Halal Ready-To-Eat Meals For The Needy

Every Singaporean male is familiar with the ready-to-eat meals that we are so fond of. But what if you could apply this concept to help out the needy?

Free Food for All (FFFA) – a charity organisation – does this by partnering with a Brunei company to create Singapore-styled, ready-to-eat meals.

They aim to provide the needy with food this Ramadan.

Caters to needy who can’t cook

While most charities donate food like rice to the less fortunate, FFFA has found it does not do much to help those who cannot cook.

As a result, they end up eating only the cup noodles and biscuits, often given to them with the rice.

Therefore, FFFA created a healthy alternative – meals that are ready-to-eat.

These meals are packed into “retort pouches” to keep them for a year. It uses fresh ingredients and contains no preservatives.

They can be easily heated, microwaved or even eaten straight from the packet just like field rations — except, they’re probably much better tasting.

Below is a glimpse of what you can expect from the packet.

7 meal options available

These pouches are currently available in 7 different meal options — 4 main courses and 3 desserts.

  • Buttermilk Prawn
  • Rice Porridge
  • Rice with Lentils
  • Seafood Fried Rice
  • Cheng Teng
  • Bubur Kaceng
  • Bubur Pulut Hitam

According to one of their recent Facebook posts, the charity will be coming out with more meal options, including some “Frozen Protein Packs“.

Meals are cost-effective

Traditionally, the company provides cooked food.

But cooked food may not be cost-effective in the long run compared to these packet meals. With their long shelf life, the recipients can choose when to consume it. This reduces the chances of food wastage from expiry.

The packets are delivered by cartons, each containing 36 pouches. They can be kept for long periods of time, so the company only has to make deliveries about once every month. This saves on “fuel and transportation costs”.

The ready-to-eat meals cost $3.50. This is paid for using money from the Fidyah fund, which is a Muslim donation fund. In other words, you can buy someone one of these meals for $3.50.

Aims to provide worldwide aid

If donations permit, FFFA wants to provide these food packets for needy all around the world.

If you want to contribute to the cause, you can donate or volunteer with them through their website.

Let us try and help those that need it most.
