Personal Mobility Devices (PMD) pose safety concerns not just on the road, but at home too, where charging PMDs have exploded on several occasions.

The damage to the property is horrific, but the injuries to the casualties even worse.

A Singaporean man’s family discovered how serious the consequences can be when a PMD explosion left him with burns on 80% of his body.

PMD explosion trapped him in burning room

The man was in a room at his mum’s house when an e-scooter inside it exploded, sparking a huge fire.

The fire engulfed the entire space quickly, trapping the poor man in the burning room.

Although he emerged from the blaze alive, he suffered third degree burns on 80% of his body and now requires meticulous care, as improper treatment of his wounds may “lead to severe infections which could lead to complications or death.”

Wife and 6 children currently have no income

Since the man is the family’s sole breadwinner, his injuries have left his wife and 6 children aged 2 to 15 without any income.

Caring for him alone requires extra expenditure, as they need to constantly change his wound dressings, which include the following:

  • MEPILEX 17.5cm by 17.5cm
  • 6-inch sterile crepe
  • 4-inch sterile crepe bandage

Besides medical supplies, they also need basic provisions such as:

  • Dugro Step 3 Growing Up Milk
  • Kids’ diapers — Drypers, Size XXXL
  • Cash for food & daily necessities
  • Transportation fees for their regular commute to and from hospital

They are reportedly waiting for the Social Service Office (SSO) to renew their financial assistance arrangement, but till then, they’ll need all the help they can get.

All forms of donation welcome

Since the victim is still recovering from the traumatic incident, the family is unable to receive any visitors at their home.

But generous individuals who’d like to help can head to a collection point at Chai Chee to hand over the donated items.

We hope that kind individuals will step forward soon to help this family in their time of need.
