PM Lee Urges S’poreans To Stay Home More, Only Go Out For Food, Work Or Exercise

Latest Social Distancing Measures Urge Singaporeans To Stay Home As Much As Possible

In his address to the nation on 3 Apr, Prime Minster Lee Hsien Loong shared that despite Singapore’s best efforts, Covid-19 numbers have routinely jumped by more than 50 new cases daily.

While the situation still remains under control, the government has decided to step up measures to ensure that the pandemic doesn’t escalate to become out of control.

Hence, PM Lee has urged citizens to stay at home as much as possible, and go out only for essential activities — like buying groceries or food, working (in essential sectors), or exercising to keep healthy.

Limit gatherings to immediate family members at home

This means that people should only socialise with others at home — like immediate family members.

Although all family is important, PM Lee advised citizens to avoid visiting even extended family members, especially if they are elderly or vulnerable.

There is sense in his words, as all 5 deaths reported in Singapore so far involved patients above the age of 60.

Measures aim to reduce physical contact with others

In his speech, PM Lee explained that this is necessary as despite Singapore’s best efforts, contact tracing is unable to identify all Covid-19 cases.

For nearly half of the nation’s local Covid-19 cases, it remains unknown where or how the patient contracted the coronavirus.

Hence, to err on the side of caution, the government is tightening restrictions on movement to prevent the virus from spreading via contact.

More Safe-Distancing Ambassadors will also be deployed to disperse crowds.

Getting through the pandemic requires everyone’s participation

Just as it takes 2 hands to clap, it also takes only 2 people to be in contact with each other for the coronavirus to spread. By avoiding contact with others, we can reduce the risk of transmission, and stop the spread of Covid-19.

While it may be tough, these measures are only temporary. The sooner we get past this, the sooner we can revert back to life as per normal.

Let’s do our best to social distance Covid-19 away.
