After Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s address to the nation yesterday (3 Apr), many are probably ‘stunned like vegetable’ from the many measures that are going to kick in.
However, a Korean living in Singapore believes that the strong leadership demonstrated by PM Lee is exactly what the nation needs to overcome the Covid-19 pandemic.
In her Facebook post on 3 Apr, one Ms Myung expressed her admiration and confidence that the “strong relationship between citizens and political leader” will see Singapore get through the pandemic without too much damage.
Her post has since gone viral and currently has nearly 5,000 likes and 3,500 shares — proving that her sentiments are echoed by netizens online.
Let’s see what exactly about her post struck a chord with the online community.
In her post, Ms Myung mentioned various instances where the strong bond between PM Lee and the people were highlighted.

For one, the fact that citizens tell PM Lee, “Please do NOT worry Prime Minister. We will get through this together,” after he gives a national address.
Ms Myung attributes this to the strong faith that Singaporeans have in the government, and calls it “a rare scenery to see people comforting their leader, NOT the other way around”.
Although Ms Myung isn’t Singaporean, she too felt a deep sadness when PM Lee’s father, Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, passed away.
She compared both their leadership styles, acknowledging that Lee Kuan Yew ruled with an iron fist, while PM Lee is “more open and down-to-earth”.
According to her, these qualities make Lee Hsien Loong approachable, with clear communication between him and the people.
Lastly, Ms Myung says that Singaporeans recognise that PM Lee puts his “heart and soul” into governing Singapore, and are agreeable with his decision-making.
She claims bearing witness to citizens hailing him a “hero of the nation” and expressed,
It seems this strong relationship and loyalty between citizens and political leader makes the country as a whole incredibly strong especially in chaotic times like now.
Ms Myung then shared her confidence that our little red dot will overcome the Covid-19 pandemic without getting too wrecked. She also urged citizens to adhere to the measures and not give up.
It seems that the post’s virality was due to netizens echoing her sentiments.
One netizen confirmed the trust between the people and PM Lee.
Another Singaporean shared appreciation for her citizenship.
One netizen, presumably Brazilian, also expressed envy for such leadership.
Overall, it seems like what Ms Myung said struck a chord with citizens. It appears we share her sentiments and recognise the leadership PM Lee governs with.
And it seems that other global bodies recognise it too, with Singapore being praised for its response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Let’s continue to have faith that the government is doing their best to guide us out of this crisis, and comply to their measures to make their job easier.
