The situation was the same in Thailand, where shoppers are required to have their temperatures checked when they enter a store.

However, in a Facebook video posted on Friday (15 May), a 7-Eleven staff member was seen spraying sanitiser onto a customer’s face after mixing up the disinfectant with the thermometer she was holding.

The post was also uploaded with this caption:

Netizens, however, quickly forgave the staff member, stating it might have just been an honest mistake due to muscle memory.

Store staff mixed up sanitiser with thermometer

In the viral CCTV video which has since garnered over 60,000 shares, a customer was seen walking into the convenience store, instinctively heading to the screening counter.

The female staff had a forehead thermometer in one hand and a disinfectant spray in the other.

After taking the customer’s temperature, the staff picked up the spray bottle while the customer extended her hand, expecting a spray on her palm.

The staff then appeared to spray sanitiser onto the customer’s face which resulted in her clutching her eyes in pain.

Staying safe & vigilant

We hope the customer didn’t suffer any serious injuries as a result of the incident.

While some netizens pointed out that the incident could have been a result of long hours of repetitive routines, retail companies could look at mitigating measures — such as requiring temperature-measuring staff to only hold 1 item at a time.
