People Pulling Themselves Down Sentosa MegaZip Are Staff Conducting Training, Company Assures Customer Safety

Sentosa MegaZip Unlikely To Get Stuck, Company Says Only Staff Can Pull Themselves Along

UPDATE (25 May, 4.35pm): Mega Adventure has clarified that the two people manually pulling themselves along the Sentosa MegaZip are staff conducting training. Customers cannot do this as the setup doesn’t allow them to. You may read their statement to MS News below.

Adrenaline junkies may enjoy the rush of speeding down a zipline many metres in the air. Others who are a bit hesitant to try may have fears such as heights or the possibility of a malfunction.

A video of two people manually pulling themselves along the 450-metre long MegaZip in Sentosa went viral on Reddit recently, raising such concerns.

However, the vendor, Mega Adventure, has clarified that there’s no need to worry as the two people in question are staff members conducting standard training and practice.

People spotted pulling themselves down Sentosa MegaZip

On Tuesday (24 May), a netizen posted footage of the incident to Reddit, calling the scene “one of my (their) worst fears coming true”.

Witnessing the two people pulling themselves along the zipline, the OP made the assumption that they were stuck and had to resort to such a measure.

“When you can’t slide down properly on these kinda rides, and you have to manually pull yourself down,” the OP wrote, expressing their horror at the situation.

Riders were actually staff conducting training

In response to queries from MS News, a spokesperson from Mega Adventure, which operates the Sentosa MegaZip, explained that the people on the zipline are staff and not customers.

Specifically, the two staff members are conducting training and practice. He added that,

Customers are not capable of manually pulling themselves along the wire, because they cannot reach the wire due to the set-up of the length of the harness lanyard. Customers do not manually pull themselves along, this is the job that our staff do.

Should customers ever get stuck, which is unlikely, staff members will go on the wire and retrieve them. This apparently only happens zero to five metres near the end of the zipline.

Glad everything is in order

While the video, without proper context, may seem worrying, we should remember that there’s always more to a story.

Thankfully, we now know the facts of the matter and we’re glad that there’s nothing to worry about.

Like Mega Adventure has explained, the Sentosa MegaZip is safe and staff are more than capable of handling any situation.

So if you’re seeking some thrills soon, do consider jio-ing your friends to try it.
