Having to turn back after making a wrong turn can be stressful as you have to keep a lookout for official U-turning points.
But a driver in Hougang seemed to have forgotten that rule as they made a U-turn at a zebra crossing of all places.

A netizen said he filed a police report on the matter.
Facebook page SG Road Vigilante – SGRV shared footage of the incident on Saturday (13 Jan). According to them, it happened at Hougang Street 61 the previous day (12 Jan).
The clip showed a silver Honda in front of the dashcam vehicle stopping at a zebra crossing ahead.

At first glance, one may think that the Honda driver had slowed down to allow a female pedestrian nearby to cross.

However, that did not turn out to be the case at all.
After one pedestrian had crossed, the Honda driver proceeded to turn to its right, partially using the zebra crossing and the gap in between to make a U-turn.

As the car turned, another pedestrian who was about to cross had to stop to avoid a collision.

Understandably flummoxed by the driver’s actions, the female pedestrian turned and stared at the car as it drove off.

Viewers who saw the video reacted with disdain for the driver.
Some called for the driver to lose their licence for making a U-turn at a zebra crossing.

Others pointed out that the silver car was driving in a Silver Zone — a stretch of road with enhanced safety features that cater to elderly pedestrians.

According to the Land Transport Authority (LTA), Hougang Street 61 was designated as a Silver Zone in 2020.

That means motorists there are required to slow down and pay extra attention to their surroundings, including being mindful of pedestrians.
One Facebook user was outraged enough at the Honda driver’s actions that he made a police report.
Although he wasn’t involved, he made the report as a concerned citizen, he said.
He took action as he felt that the driver blatantly flouted the rules thinking that nobody would take the trouble to report them for it, he explained.
Criticising people who “lack the courage” to make a report, he added that those who keep doing nothing are part of the problem.
According to the Singapore Police Force’s (SPF) Penalties for Traffic Offences, making an unauthorised U-turn and stopping in a zebra crossing area are punishable by fines.
