Everyone copes with breakups differently. Some go on shopping sprees, and others hit the gym.
But a 32-year-old vlogger in China, who goes by the nickname Baozhuzi, decided to dive head-first into dating.
After parting ways with her boyfriend of eight years and losing her job in the same period, she dated over 100 men.
She shared with NetEase News her worries about her ticking biological clock because she wants to have children.
In a short NetEase News documentary, 32-year-old Baozhuzi said she lived and worked in Beijing for 10 years.
At the end of 2021, her boyfriend of eight years suddenly broke up with her. As luck would have it, two weeks later, she lost her well-paying job.
It was the only relationship she had ever been in. But in just another two weeks, she decided to get back into the dating game.
Over the next year, she went on dates with over 100 men, sometimes meeting three people daily.
Rationalising her serial-dater behaviour, Baozhuzi said, “Dressing up is so troublesome.” So, when she looks good, she makes it a point to meet more people in a day.
She approached the dating experience with an open mind to connect with different types of people.
While Baozhuzi does not feel that her age should not be a push factor, she shares that it is a concern because she wants to have not one, but two children.
China considers pregnancies for women 35 and above high-risk. This thought worries her — it became a form of pressure in her dating life.
In China, women who are over 27 and unmarried are often described as “leftover women”.
When asked how she feels about dating in her 30s, Baozhuzi expressed that age shouldn’t be a constraint.
The way we measure our lives is often self-imposed, she said. “Assessing the achievement of life goals by age is simply a social construct.”
But she noted that everyone’s life path is different, and there’s no point in bending to societal pressure.
These days, Baozhuzi takes life one day at a time.
“Hard work pays off in everything we do except love,” she said.
No matter how hard you work at love, you cannot expect any reward.
Nonetheless, Baozhuzi might still have a fairytale happily ever after in her books.
After meeting over 100 men, she recently met someone special to her in November 2022, reported NetEase News.
Baozhuzi has faced and accepted the many curveballs life has thrown her.
She said, “You just need to believe that you can keep walking forward because you have to.”
Baozhuzi’s documentary resonated with many, and her video went viral on Weibo, garnering over 3.42 million views in nine days.
Her dating life was not without its critics.
However, many also supported her and the life advice she dished out.
Some also encouraged her to be herself and not to get pressured by society.
After all, 32 is still a young age, said this netizen.
