According to The Straits Times (ST), preliminary investigations by the police suggest no foul play.

Steel bars swayed & fell, injuring 2 workers

A Land Transport Authority (LTA) spokesperson told MS News that the incident occurred during the installation of steel bars for a pilecap, a part of the station’s foundation system.

At around 9.30am, the bars swayed and fell onto the workers, injuring them.

Both men were conveyed to Woodlands Health Campus Hospital, where the younger worker passed away, said a Ministry of Manpower (MOM) spokesperson.

Meanwhile, the older worker sustained minor injuries and has been discharged.

LTA assisting family of deceased worker

LTA has initiated a safety timeout to review and further enhance the safety process.

It emphasised its commitment to treating safety incidents seriously and is working with the main contractor, Penta-Ocean Construction, and sub-contractor, Interno Engineering, to extend support to the deceased worker’s family.

MOM had also ordered the occupier to stop all stee, reinforcement workers at the worksite.

In 2020, LTA awarded Penta-Ocean Construction a civil contract valued at S$932.8 million to construct the RTS Link.

The RTS Link, upon completion, aims to serve up to 10,000 passengers per hour between Woodlands North station in Singapore and Bukit Chagar station in Johor Bahru.

Passenger service is expected to commence by the end of 2026.

MOM is currently investigating the incident.
