Yishun Charity Shop Lets Residents Donate Essentials & Toys For Low-Income Families To Pick What They Need

Project HOPE Shop In Yishun Allows Low-Income Families To Get Only The Items That They Need

Contrary to infamous stories, Yishun has been the setting of many heartwarming events recently, like the community fridge for low-income families.

Adding to that effort, Nee Soon GRC’s Member of Parliament (MP) Louis Ng introduced Project HOPE, an initiative by the community, for the community.

In a Facebook video yesterday (16 Feb), Mr Ng appealed for donations, which volunteers will collect on 24 Feb.

Food items on shelves like at supermarkets

Unlike regular donation drives, Project HOPE doesn’t distribute goodie bags containing food items to families.

Instead, all the items will be on shelves where residents can pick only what they need to stock up on in their homes.

This way, they wouldn’t be receiving unwanted food items that may end up going to waste.

According to Mr Ng, this initiative will also empower low-income residents to make their own choices, as picking out donated food items this way is akin to shopping at a supermarket.

Free toys, clothes & baby products for children

Likewise for the younger population, a wide array of toys are available for them to bring home and play to their hearts’ content.

The elation on the children’s faces upon seeing the toys is absolutely priceless.

For parents, providing for children can be rather costly, so Project HOPE shop will be a great alternative, as there are clothing and infant care items too.

The video appears to show some kitchen appliances as well on some of the shelves, so all that the families need in the household will be there.

Donate your items to low-income Yishun residents

A donation drive to collect items such as the above will be held next Monday (24 Feb) at Project HOPE shop itself.

Donations they will accept include:

  • Children’s toys, books & stationery
  • Food far from the expiration date
  • Infant care items
  • Home appliances

Note that volunteers will reject anything broken or with permanent stains, or incomplete toy sets.

Here are more details of the collection, if you’re keen on dropping by:

Address: 227 Yishun Street 21, #01-520, Singapore 760227
Date & Time: Monday, 24 Feb, 7.30pm – 9.30pm

Everyone is welcome to donate, not just residents in the area, so do come with your unwanted items that are still in good condition and contribute to a meaningful cause.
