A woman’s special day took a turn for the better when she received a surprise celebration from some bakery staff in Kuala Lumpur (KL).
They hatched the plan minutes after noticing that she was celebrating her birthday alone.
On Wednesday (4 Dec), a bakery named Sundaydo shared an Instagram video of a middle-aged woman visiting the shop to buy a piece of cake.
Once staff realised it was her birthday, they offered her the cake for free. Although the aunty insisted on paying, the staff refused to accept her money.
The team then noticed that she had blown the candle on her cake all on her own.
Shortly afterwards, she went to a nearby shop to buy some biscuits — intending to gift these to the bakery staff in exchange for the cake.
When she returned, the employees surprised her with a proper celebration, complete with a Happy Birthday song.
The aunty, overwhelmed by the surprise, was moved to tears.
“Witnessing her tears of joy as we sang for her reminds us why we do what we do. This is the reason we keep going,” said the staff.
“It’s what drives us, and it always will.”
The Instagram post has since gone viral with more than 100,000 likes and 3,000 comments.
One netizen asked whether the bakery was selling cakes or onions, suggesting that the clip brought her to tears.
Most commenters praised the staff for their kind actions towards a stranger.
This Instagram user remarked that the world needs more people like them, adding that simple kindness will make it a better place.
