On Wednesday (1 Apr) morning, photos of NTUC FairPrice in Bedok Mall started circulating on social media, showing clearly that its shutters are drawn with a notice saying that it’s “closed till further notice.”
Some even managed to snap pictures of people donning hazmat suits in the supermarket.
Later that afternoon, NTUC FairPrice confirmed that one of its employees at the outlet had tested positive for Covid-19. The place will be closed for 3 days and will reopen on Saturday (4 Apr).
According to NTUC FairPrice’s statement, the staff tested positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday (31 Mar) evening. This means the case was likely not included in the Ministry of Health’s update last night.
The employee, whose gender and age were undisclosed, has since been quarantined and is currently being observed by medical personnel.
The staff reportedly works “in the back end replenishing stock” and has “minimal contact” with customers.
NTUC FairPrice says the employee last reported to work on 25 Mar and sought medical treatment on 27 Mar for a fever. They have since been on medical leave.
In light of the situation, the NTUC FairPrice outlet in Bedok point will be closed for 3 days for deep cleaning and disinfecting procedures. The outlet will reopen on Saturday (4 Apr).
Customers are advised to visit the nearest store located at Block 212 Bedok North Street 1, #01-147.
All other staff who works at NTUC FairPrice’s Bedok Mall outlet have been issued leave of absence.
NTUC FairPrice apologises for any inconvenience caused and said they’re doing all they can so staff and customers can work and shop in a “safe and healthy environment”.
MS News wishes the infected employee a speedy recovery.
While it is unfortunate that the popular outlet had to be closed for disinfecting procedures, we hope NTUC FairPrice’s ‘leave no stones unturned’ approach will do well in curbing the situation.
