Boy dies after being struck by school bus

A seven-year-old boy named Muhammad Umar died on the afternoon of 14 July after being struck by a school bus he had alighted from in Johor, Malaysia.

Upon realising what had happened, the 36-year-old female bus driver fainted at the scene.

Victim struck while school bus was making a turn

According to Sin Chew Daily News, the incident occurred at around 4.20pm along Jalan Raya 3, Taman Seri Lalang in Kluang.

After the victim stepped off the bus, the driver turned the vehicle into Jalan Raya 3, during which she reportedly struck the boy, who was on the left side of the road.

Upon impact, Umar hit his head on the ground.

He succumbed to severe head injuries on the spot.

Bus driver fainted from shock

After she fainted at the scene, the bus driver was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

She also underwent a urine test, which returned negative for drugs.

Kluang district police chief ACP Bahrin Mohd Noh said the driver will be remanded to assist with the investigation.

The police also launched an investigation into the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Following the incident, the authorities urged all road users to remain cautious, show consideration for others, and strictly adhere to traffic laws to prevent such tragic mishaps.

Additionally, they reminded school bus drivers to double-check that all students are completely safe before moving off.

Family does not blame bus driver

Umar’s father, Mohd Faaiz Muran, shared that he noticed his son become unusually affectionate a few days before the incident.

“Last Monday, he asked me to carry and hug him, which he had never done before. He also asked for various things, including a bicycle, and promised me that he would study hard,” he told New Straits Times after Umar’s funeral.

“Fortunately, I managed to fulfil most of his requests,” Mr Faaiz shared.

The father said he was supposed to return home from Selangor to take Umar and his twin younger sisters out for a walk a day after his son’s untimely death.

Despite his son’s tragic passing, Mr Faaiz said his family does not blame the bus driver and accepts what happened as fate.
