A 59-year-old farmer in Buriram province, Thailand, died on Tuesday (27 Oct) after being attacked by a 500kg breeding buffalo he had raised.
The five-year-old bull called Chao Dui (transliterated from Thai) had reportedly shown aggressive behaviour towards the farmer for three years.
According to CH7 News, the incident happened in a wooded area behind a village in Satuk district.
The farmer, identified as Loe (name transliterated from Thai), regularly brought his herd of 11 buffaloes there to graze.

On Tuesday evening, villagers found Mr Loe lying topless in a clearing with an eviscerated abdomen.
Both of his arms and legs also had multiple wounds and fractures.
They then alerted the village head regarding the incident.
Mr Loe’s son, Nithisit (transliterated from Thai), said the herd returned to their enclosure without his father that evening.

He then noticed blood on Chao Dui’s horns and legs, leading him to suspect that the buffalo had attacked his father.
Mr Nithisit subsequently went to look for his father, but unfortunately found him dead.
Mr Nithisit revealed that the animal had displayed aggressive behaviour towards his father for about two to three years.
He said it would frequently try to attack Mr Loe as though they didn’t get along.

The village head also said he was aware that the farmer and buffalo had a history of conflict, but did not expect it to end in a fatal attack.
Mr Nithisit said he had previously told his mother to sell the animal because of its temperament.
However, the family had decided to keep it as a breeding buffalo.
Following his father’s death, Mr Nithisit said he no longer intends to keep Chao Dui and plans to sell the animal to a slaughterhouse.
