30 evacuated, including 1 who was sent to hospital

As a precaution, about 30 people from the affected block were evacuated by the police and SCDF.

One of them was conveyed to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

2nd casualty declined to be sent to hospital

In a Facebook post that afternoon, Jurong East-Bukit Batok GRC MP Lee Hong Chuang said that besides the person who was sent to hospital, another casualty was reported.

That person declined to be sent to the hospital.

The MP went down to the block to speak with the coffeeshop owner and stallholders to offer his “support and concern”, he added.

Floor of 2nd-floor unit ‘slightly warm’: MP

Mr Lee also visited other residents in the block to check on their well-being and hear their concerns, he said.

While there appeared to be “no significant impact” on the second-floor residents, the floor of one of the units was “slightly warm”, he noted.

He advised the family to exercise “extra caution” and keep their child away from the kitchen floor temporarily, as young children’s skin can be more sensitive to heat.

MP thinks of those affected by fire

Mr Lee said his thoughts were with the coffeeshop owner, stallholders, workers and everyone else affected by this unfortunate incident.

Beyond the physical damage, he noted that people’s lives and livelihoods had been affected, adding:

Behind every stall are hardworking individuals and families who need some time to clear up and start over again.

He thanks all those who lent their support, including the police, SCDF, HDB, grassroots organisations and the town council.
