If you’ve been on social media over the past few days, you must’ve seen footage of what appears to be a group of men fighting in an open-air carpark in Choa Chu Kang.
On Saturday (29 Feb) the police announced they have arrested 13 men for their suspected involvement in the incident.
They face charges for rioting and assembling unlawfully with deadly weapons and will be charged later today.
According to the police, the incident took place at 10 Choa Chu Kang Way on Thursday (27 Feb) afternoon, at around 2.25pm.
The police managed to identify the suspects and made arrests within just 28 hours.
The 13 men arrested, aged between 17 and 28 were nabbed in various areas in northern and western parts of Singapore:
A variety of weapons believed to have been used in the fight were also seized, including a knife, knuckle dusters, a metal bar, and a metal rod, reports The Straits Times.
According to The Straits Times, all 13 suspects will be charged later today.
Of them, 5 face charges for rioting with a deadly weapon. If found guilty, they can be jailed for up to 10 years and caned.
The remaining 7 will be charged with unlawful assembly with a deadly weapon, which carries a maximum jail term of 5 years, a fine, caning, or a combination of all 3 punishments.
In the video which has circulated widely on social media, a large group of men can be seen chasing after a lone man at an open-air carpark.
One man, presumably the one being chased, suffered horrific injuries to his left hand.
Blood was seen dripping down uncontrollably on the grass below — a sign that the injury must’ve been pretty severe.
Another footage shows what appears to be riot policemen decked out in armoured suits arriving later at the scene of the incident.
Kudos to the police for identifying the men involved within such a short period of time.
We hope those involved in the brawl will be dealt with severely to deter other hooligans from doing the same in the future.
We pray that the victim’s injuries were only superficial and that he will make a speedy recovery.
