Clementi temperature sinks to 20.7°C on 27 Sept as rain falls across S’pore, PUB issues 26 flash flood alerts

Clementi temperature of 20.7°C on 27 Sept comes a day after joint highest temperature for Sept the day before

Rain poured over Singapore on Sunday (27 Sept) afternoon, resulting in the temperature in Clementi sinking to 20.7°C — the lowest for the day.

The downpour was so heavy that national water agency PUB issued 26 flash flood alerts for locations across the island.

20.7°C temperature in Clementi was lowest for 27 Sept

According to the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS) website at weather.gov.sg, the lowest recorded temperature for Sunday was 20.7°C.

This notable low was detected along Clementi Road at 12.20pm.

Even our highest temperature today was relatively low — 30.6°C, recorded at the Paya Lebar Meteorological Station.

Clementi temperature plunged suddenly after noon

The climate recorded at the Clementi Road station was fairly cool after 12 noon, staying above 22°C.

It stayed at about 20.7°C to 20.8°C for around 10 minutes, before quickly rising above 22°C again after 12.30pm.

The chilly weather was possibly caused by the rain that fell over Singapore in the late morning and early afternoon, pushing temperatures down.

PUB issues 26 flash flood alerts, flood occurs at Pasir Panjang

PUB alerted on X that heavy rain was expected over many areas of Singapore from 11am to 12.30pm.

Due to the heavy rain, PUB also issued 26 alerts on the risk of flash floods across several locations.

A flash flood indeed occurred at 11.57am, at the junction of Neo Pee Teck Lane and Pasir Panjang, and the public was advised to avoid the area.

The flood subsided about 11 minutes later, at 12.08pm.

Joint-highest temperature for Sept recorded on 26 Sept

The drop in temperature on Sunday came just one day after Singapore recorded its joint-highest daily maximum temperature for September.

The mercury soared to 35.8°C at the Woodlands Avenue 9 climate station at 3.27pm on Saturday (26 Sept), reported The Straits Times (ST), citing information from the National Environment Agency (NEA).

This matched the temperature recorded at Sembawang Road on 30 Sept 2016 — the highest for this month since MSS began taking records in 1929.
