A customer who bought a meal from a mixed rice stall in Tampines was disgusted to allegedly find a cockroach in his food.
Posting about the incident in the Singapore Heritage Food Facebook group, user Johnson LK shared a photo of the insect peeking out from under two mounds of chicken.

Johnson said he was halfway through his meal when he “never expected” to find a cockroach.
According to a screenshot he posted of a NETS transaction, he had paid S$5.50 for the food on Wednesday (4 Nov).

Johnson also claimed that he was not the only customer of the stall who had found a cockroach in their food.
He shared a screenshot of a Google review by another customer who also alleged that they had found a cockroach in a S$7 meal.

Checks by MS News on Google confirmed that the review of the stall in Tampines is still on the site.
Speaking to 8world News, Johnson said he had found the cockroach only after he had brought the packet of economical rice home and taken a few bites.
The insect was still alive, he added.
He thus decided to share his experience on social media to alert others, so they could avoid a similar situation, he maintained.
In response to queries, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) said it is looking into the matter.
SFA takes “a serious view” of food safety and “will not hesitate” to take enforcement action if sufficient evidence has been obtained.
It also resolved to investigate all allegations of poor food safety practices, while the feedback provider could be engaged for more details as part of the enquiry and gathering of evidence.
While SFA puts in place and enforces regulatory measures, food safety is “joint responsibility”, it urged food operators to play their part adhering to good food hygiene and preparation practices.
They should also ensure their premises are clean and well-maintained.
Members of the public should report their concerns to SFA via its online feedback form, it added.
