In a post on r/askSingapore on Reddit, the OP shared that during the five days, she “got approached by one guy at an MRT station”.
Later, there was another guy at Paragon, another at a local food court, and one inside a FairPrice supermarket.
The OP said that the men were asking for her number, Telegram or Instagram handle. She also added that the men were of various races, including Indian, Chinese and an European.
She also shared that while living briefly in the United Kingdom, she got approached sometimes in pubs or clubs.
However, in Singapore, she had mostly been approached in “very mundane settings”.

Apart from long jeans and pants, the OP did not think she dressed promiscuously.
She shared that she would usually wear half-sleeve or tops with thick straps, and nothing “crazy” like “booty shorts or cleavage”.

Apart from the MRT encounter, the OP said she did not feel unsafe and therefore did not find being approached to be a major concern.
“But this is something I really didn’t anticipate,” the OP said. “I was wondering if guys here are just more forward.”
Netizens offered various speculations about the reasons behind the “cold approach”.
Most believed that the OP must be “pretty” as “pretty girls get hit on” often in Singapore based on personal experiences.

Some theorised that it could be the influx of tourists during the Formula One season, thus some may feel “more emboldened to shoot their shot”.
