One worker dies and another injured at NTU construction site

A worker was killed on Wednesday (17 Feb) and another injured in an accident at a construction site a part of the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine campus in NTU, which is currently under construction, according to media reports.

The fatal accident unfolded at 11am along 11 Mandalay Road when a 25-year-old worker fell to his death. The floor crane that he had been operating toppled over the edge of the floor and dragged him along as it fell off the building.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Another 57-year-old worker who was on the ground level when the accident happened, suffered injuries to his leg after he was hit by debris from the impact of the fallen crane. He was sent to the hospital for treatment.

The building, has been since evacuated.

Ministry of Manpower (MOM) issued a stop-work order at the site

MOM has issued a stop-work order at the construction site, saying that it found safety lapses at the site after inspection. For example, there were many open sides not barricaded and could be potential falling hazards to workers.

MOM also said that the company has to address the safety lapses before it can continue work.
