On Monday (16 Mar), Singapore confirmed 17 new Covid-19 cases, with 11 of them imported cases.
This is the biggest number of new cases reported in the Republic in a single day.
We now have a total of 243 confirmed cases, with 4 more cases discharged from hospital, bringing the number of recovered patients to 109.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) reported on Monday that of the 134 cases still hospitalised, 13 are in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Here’s some info on the 11 imported cases:
1. Case 227: The 53-year-old male Singapore Citizen was in France from 7 Mar to 12 Mar, and reported symptoms on 11 March while in France.
He went to the National University Hospital (NUH) on 14 Mar, and tested positive on 15 Mar. He is currently warded in an isolation room at NUH.
He works at Lighthouse Evangelism Church on Tampines Street 82, but has not worked since presenting symptoms.
He lives at Pasir Panjang Road.
2. Case 229: The 26-year-old female Singapore permanent resident was in Spain from 14 Feb to 14 Mar.
She reported symptoms on 15 Mar, and went to a GP clinic on the same day. She also went to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID) on 15 March, and tested positive the same day.
She lives in Kim Keat Road.
3. Case 230: The 38-year-old female Singapore Citizen was in Eastern Europe from 3 Mar to 14 Mar.
She reported symptoms on 14 Mar, and went to NCID on 15 March. She tested positive that same day. She is currently warded in an isolation room at the NCID.
She is an adjunct teaching staff at Republic Polytechnic and Singapore Polytechnic, but had not gone to work since onset of symptoms.
She lives in Ewe Boon Road.
4. Case 231: The 78-year-old male Australian national is a Singapore Work Pass holder and was in the United States from 23 Feb to 14 Mar.
He reported symptoms on 4 Mar, but went to the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) on 14 March. He tested positive on 15 Mar. He is currently warded in SGH.
He lives in Robertson Quay.
5. Case 232: The 65 year-old female Australian national is a Singapore Work Pass holder, and a family member of case 231. She was also in the United States from 23 Feb to 14 Mar.
She reported symptoms on 2 March while in the United States, but went to SGH on 14 March. She tested positive on 15 Mar. She is currently warded in SGH.
She lives in Robertson Quay.
6. Case 233: The 61-year-old male British national is a Singapore Long Term Pass holder, and was in the United Kingdom from 6 Mar to 14 Mar.
He tested positive on 16 March, and is currently warded in an isolation room at NCID.
7. Case 238: The 83-year-old female Belgium national arrived in Singapore on 6 Mar. She tested positive on 16 March morning, and is currently warded in an isolation room at NCID.
8. Case 239: The 28-year-old male British national is a Singapore Work Pass holder, and was in France from 7 Marh to 14 Mar. He tested positive on 16 Mar, and is currently warded in an isolation room at NCID.
9. Case 240: The 27-year-old male Singapore permanent resident was in Spain from 7 Mar to 14 Mar. He tested positive on 16 Mar, and is currently warded in an isolation room at NUH.
He is linked to Case 229.
10. Case 241: The 28-year-old male British national is a Singapore Work Pass holder, and was in France from 7 Mar to 14 Mar. He tested positive on 16 Mar, and is currently warded in an isolation room at NCID.
11. Case 243: The 36-year-old male Singapore Citizen was in Germany from 26 Feb to 29 Feb, Italy from 29 Feb to 7 Mar and Switzerland from 7 Mar to 14 Mar.
He tested positive on 16 Mar, and is currently warded in an isolation room at NCID.
1. Case 228: The 67-year-old male Singapore Citizen has no recent travel history to affected countries and regions.
He reported symptoms on 3 Mar, and went to a general practitioner (GP) and Bedok Polyclinic on 3 Mar, 11 Mar and 13 Mar. He went to Changi General Hospital (CGH) on 13 Mar, and tested positive on 15 Mar. He is currently warded in an isolation room at CGH.
Before admitting to hospital, he mostly stayed at his home at Sea Breeze Avenue, except when he visited the GP and polyclinic.
2. Case 234: The 86-year-old male Singapore Citizen no recent travel history to affected countries and regions. He tested positive 16 Mar, and is currently warded in an isolation room at SGH.
He is the oldest person to be infected in Singapore so far.
1. Case 235: The 31-year-old female Singapore Citizen with no recent travel history to affected countries and regions tested positive on 16 Mar and is currently warded in an isolation room at SGH.
She is a medical social worker at SGH, and is linked to Case 208.
2. Case 236: The 30-year-old female Singapore Citizen with no recent travel history to affected countries and regions tested positive on 16 Mar, and is currently warded in an isolation room at NCID. She is a family member of Case 219, and is linked to Case 142. She is also linked to case 211.
3. Case 237: The a 36-year-old female Indonesian national is a Singapore Work Pass holder, and has no recent travel history to affected countries and regions. She tested positive on 16 Mar, and is currently warded in an isolation room at NCID. She is linked to Case 225.
4. Case 242: The 64-year-old female Singapore Citizen was in Malaysia on 7 Mar and 8 Mar. She tested positive on 16 Mar morning, and is currently warded in an isolation room at NCID. She is a contact of Case 166.
MOH also announced that 4 more cases have been discharged from hospital, as they had fully recovered. This brings the total number of recoveries to 109.
Out of the 134 patients still warded, 13 are in critical condition and are in intensive care.
While we are in dismay that the number of cases seem to be rising with no end in sight, we take a small amount of comfort that most of them are imported cases, meaning that actual community spread is slight.
We hope all the infected people recover fully, and the number of cases can go down soon.
