690 New Covid-19 Cases In S’pore On 29 Apr, Total Number Now Above 15,000

Singapore Confirms 690 New Covid-19 Cases, Bringing National Tally To 15,641 On 29 Apr

On Wednesday (29 Apr), Singapore confirmed 690 new Covid-19 cases, with 660 of them being work permit-holders living in dormitories.

Among these new cases are six Singaporeans and permanent residents.

We now have a total of 15,641 confirmed cases, with 62 more cases discharged, meaning 1,188 have fully recovered, the Ministry of Health (MOH) reported.

Breakdown of new cases

Among the 690 new cases on Wednesday (29 Apr),

  • 660 are work-permit holders living in dormitories
  • 19 are work-permit holders residing outside dormitories
  • 6 are Singaporeans or permanent residents
  • 5 are long-term work pass holders
  • Zero are imported
  • 63% are linked to known clusters
  • the rest are pending contact tracing

Happily, the number of new cases in the community has decreased, MOH said.

It’s now at an average of 17 per day in the past week — it was 25 cases per day in the week before.

There are also fewer unlinked cases in the community. The figure now stands at 9 per day in the past week — it was 17 cases per day the week before.

NCID nurse is one of the new cases

Another healthcare worker has been diagnosed with Covid-19, and she is among the new cases on Wednesday (29 Apr).

 

The Malaysian nurse at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID) showed symptoms on 23 Apr.

The 23-year-old tested positive for the disease on 29 Apr, and is case 15237. She is now warded at the NCID.

Before being warded, she was on medical leave, except when she went to work for a few hours.

5 new clusters found

As the authorities continue to link new and previously announced cases, five new clusters have been found:

  1. 11 Defu Lane 1, where 22 new cases have been linked to six previous cases.
  2. 106 International Road, where three new cases have been linked to 10 previous cases.
  3. 33 Senoko Way, where seven previous cases have been linked.
  4. 17 Shaw Road, where five of the new cases have been linked to six previous cases.
  5. 182 Woodlands Industrial Park E5, where one new case has been linked to 23 previous cases.

Singapore’s biggest cluster, the S11 Dormitory @ Punggol, added 134 cases, giving it a total of 2,436 cases.

1,714 cases still warded

Of the 1,714 cases still warded, 22 are in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), while 14 have died.

12,725 have been isolated and sent to community isolation facilities as they are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19.
