The 25-year-old woman driving the other car was also taken to hospital, but was conscious.

According to the police, Zulfiqar allegedly did not render assistance and abandoned his vehicle before fleeing with his 29-year-old female passenger.

Zulfiqar appeared in court through a video link on 31 Oct, The Straits Times (ST) reported.

He wore a white polo shirt and had golden highlights in his hair, a goatee and stretched earlobes. His left arm also appeared heavily tattooed.

Fatal accident comes amidst rise in traffic offences

The number of cases involving deregistered vehicles has also risen in recent years.

There were 40 cases in 2022 and 39 in 2023. This increased to 75 in 2024 and 245 in 2025.

In the first five months of 2026, the Land Transport Authority investigated 122 such cases.

The police said they take a serious view of motorists who use deregistered vehicles, drive while disqualified or commit other serious traffic offences.

They added that such reckless and irresponsible acts endanger other road users, and that they would not hesitate to take firm action against motorists who disregard traffic laws.

Singapore also recorded 149 traffic deaths in 2025, the highest figure in 10 years, compared with 141 in 2016, the Ministry of Transport (MOT) said.

The number of people injured in traffic accidents rose from 9,342 in 2024 to 9,955 in 2025.
