Car driver arrested after crashing into SBS Transit bus, police seize vape found in his possession

A 31-year-old car driver with a vape crashed into an SBS Transit bus in Rochor on Saturday (12 Sept) evening, injuring two.

The police subsequently arrested him for allegedly driving under the influence of drugs.

In response to MS News queries, the police said the incident occurred on 12 Sept at around 6.45pm.

It involved a bus, a car, and a Power-Assisted Bicycle (PAB) along Middle Road towards Sophia Road.

A video by an anonymous user on the Complaint Singapore Facebook group showed a black car with serious front-end damage after it rear-ended a bus at a bus stop.

The rear of the bus, where the engine is located, also suffered some damage.

Mrs Grace Wu, an SBS Transit spokesperson, told MS News that the Service 56 bus was hit while conducting passenger boarding and alighting activities.

Six passengers on board suffered injuries, with one 65-year-old woman being conveyed to the hospital by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).

“We are in touch with her to offer our care and support. The other passengers were transferred to another bus to continue their journeys,” Mrs Wu added.

A 32-year-old male PAB rider also had to be taken to the hospital.

The car driver suffered minor injuries but declined conveyance to the hospital. Subsequently, the police arrested him for driving under the influence of drugs.

Additionally, the police seized a vape found in the driver’s possession. They referred the vape-related offence to the Health Sciences Authority (HSA).

MS News has also reached out to HSA for their comments on the incident.

Police investigations are ongoing.
