A drunk passenger was arrested after shattering the windows and punching the windshield of a taxi in Kallang.
He pleaded guilty to multiple charges last Friday (25 Sept) and was sentenced to two years, 10 months and five weeks’ jail, along with two strokes of the cane.

The case involves the 36-year-old Mamun AL from Bangladesh.
According to Shin Min Daily News, Mamun went drinking with friends at Lorong 22 Geylang on the morning of 27 Jan 2024.
The intoxicated man then flagged down a taxi at 6.15am and boarded it with a bottle of beer still in his hands.
When the taxi drove onto Kallang Road, Mamun suddenly broke the rear windows with the bottle.
The 74-year-old taxi driver pulled over at a bus stop and alighted to investigate the damage.

He found that both passenger-side windows in the rear had been shattered, with glass shards strewn on the inside.
When Mamun alighted, the elderly driver asked him about what had happened.
The intoxicated man went to the front and smashed at the windshield with his beer bottle. He then threw it aside and punched the windshield instead.
Eventually, Mamun fell asleep by the roadside at Kallang Road.

The driver called the police, who arrived and promptly arrested Mamun.
His attack left the windshield cracked in multiple spots.
The taxi’s repair costs totalled around S$2,197, and Mamun reportedly did not pay any compensation.
While out on bail, Mamun committed another crime at around 5pm on 12 Feb 2024.
A 40-year-old man picked up a discarded bicycle lock at the Merdaka Bridge underpass when he was confronted by Mamun and several accomplices.
One of the accomplices snatched the lock away and accused the victim of stealing his e-scooter.
When the victim denied it and refused to pay S$1,000 as demanded, Mamun and his accomplices began punching and kicking him.
They even attacked him using the bicycle lock and wooden sticks. The victim handed over his mobile phone, a bank card, and S$50 to make them stop.
On 15 Feb, Mamun stole a bicycle worth S$650 from influencer Royal Pek.

“Brother, stop playing,” he said in a TikTok video after the theft. “Don’t steal things in Singapore; you will get caught.”
He pointed to a CCTV camera at the bicycle racks, which would have captured the thief’s actions.

Indeed, the police traced the theft back to Mamun. They recovered Royal’s bicycle, but it had already been modified with parts stolen from other bicycles.
Mamun received nine charges for his various crimes, including voluntarily causing hurt, theft, extortion, and committing a rash act.
On 25 Sept, he pleaded guilty to four of the charges.
The judge handed him a sentence of two years, 10 months, and five weeks in jail. He also received two strokes of the cane.
Three of his accomplices who assaulted the man at Merdaka Bridge also received two years and nine months in jail, alongside two strokes of the cane.
