A fun family outing at Jurong Lake Gardens took a dark turn after an elderly man allegedly started playing explicit videos next to their seven-year-old son.
The incident left the parents infuriated and shaken, while the man reportedly hurried away on his bicycle.
“I didn’t even think it could happen to our family. It’s the kind of incident where you only think you’ll read [about] it online,” the 36-year-old woman, who wished to be referred to as ‘Mrs K’, told MS News.
At around 4.30pm on 25 July, Mrs K and her husband took their five-year-old daughter to Jurong Lake Gardens to teach her how to cycle.

Their seven-year-old son, who did not have a bicycle, followed them along.
The family headed to the ActiveSG Park inside Jurong Lake Gardens, where they found plenty of people, including other families with children.
They placed their bags on an empty bench and went ahead with teaching their young daughter.
About 10 minutes later, Mrs K claimed she noticed an “uncle”, possibly in his 60s or 70s, approaching them on his silver bicycle.
She described him as around 170cm tall with a heavy build and short white hair.
“He parked his bike super close to the bench where we left our bags. Then, he walked very slowly towards the table, stood there, and leaned his hip against it.”
Mrs K became worried that the elderly man might try to steal their bags and alerted her husband.
She then sent her seven-year-old son to sit at the bench and kept an eye on the bags to deter the suspected thief.

The parents continued with their daughter’s cycling lesson. Mrs K explained that they were helping her balance with a towel, and so both of them were needed.
After another 10 minutes, Mrs K went for a solo jog around the park. Her husband sat down on a bench to watch their kids, who went to play on a nearby hill.
When Mrs K returned at 5.12pm after one lap, her husband suddenly raised his voice and told everyone to leave as the elderly man was “acting weird”.
He confronted the man directly and threatened to call the police.
The uncle seemed shocked, kept apologising, and then started acting busy by stretching again.
The family walked away from the elderly man, after which her husband alleged that the man had left his phone on his bicycle and covered it with a towel.

When Mrs K’s husband sat down, he could hear that the man was playing explicit videos.
“Both of us were full of anger and couldn’t think straight,” she said.
While looking for someone at the park to report the matter to, the uncle allegedly fled on his bicycle.
Mrs K told MS News that her son said he did not hear anything from the uncle’s videos. She suggested that her son had zoned out after all the activities from earlier in the day.
“Our kids didn’t really understand what happened,” she added.
Mrs K recently uploaded the alleged story to TikTok, where many netizens convinced her to make a police report soon.
She urged other parents to always stay vigilant, as these incidents happen when they least expect it.

“We let our emotions control us, so we couldn’t think straight,” Mrs K said, adding that she and her husband ended up not discussing it.
Furthermore, she felt that victims should confront the matter immediately rather than downplay it out of fear.
Mrs K also told MS News that parents should talk about such situations with their children.
We have to let them know that when they are by themselves, if any adults approach and you are not comfortable, don’t engage with them.
