Household Electricity Bills To Increase From Jan To Mar 2020 Due To Higher Energy Cost

It’s not exactly the nicest news to receive during the season of giving, but electricity bills will be going up a little from Jan to Mar 2020. This was announced by Singapore Power (SP) Group on Monday (30 Dec).

According to the press release, the increase is due to higher energy cost in the first 3 months of the new year.

Electricity tariff to increase by 3.5%

From 1 Jan to 31 Mar 2020, electricity tariffs before the 7% GST, will increase by about 3.5%. That is about $0.81/kWh compared to the previous quarter.

Best way to start the year

Having to kick-start 2020 with increased electricity bills is probably a bit sian for most of us.

But may we count our blessings and be grateful for living in a country where we never have to worry about frequent or prolonged power outages.

After all, if you put things into perspective, for the average Singaporean, the increase means 1 less BBT a month. It’s really not that bad.
