No MRT service at Simei from 7 to 10 Dec, shuttle trains operating between 5 other EWL stations

MRT train service adjustments on EWL in December for new track laying

Simei MRT station will not have train service from 7 to 10 Dec 2024, impacting five other stations along the East-West Line (EWL).

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced these changes on Facebook today (5 Nov).

LTA explained that new train tracks are being laid to connect the EWL to the new East Coast Integrated Depot (ECID), which is expected to enhance train efficiency and rail resilience.

To facilitate these track works, six EWL stations will undergo service adjustments over the four-day period.

LTA cited safety concerns as the reason for suspending train operations on this segment of the EWL.

In addition to the complete service suspension at Simei, the affected stations include Tampines, Pasir Ris, Tanah Merah, Expo, and Changi Airport.

Shuttle trains will operate between Pasir Ris and Tampines at five-minute intervals, while Tanah Merah and Expo will have shuttle services running every eight minutes.

The connection between Expo and Changi Airport will feature trains running approximately every 11 minutes.

Shuttle buses to operate between Tampines & Tanah Merah

LTA also confirmed that shuttle buses will run between Tampines, Simei, and Tanah Merah MRT stations.

Since Simei is located between Tampines and Tanah Merah, train services connecting these stations will be unavailable.

The shuttle bus service will operate every three to five minutes, with fares aligned with the existing train fare structure.

Commuters are advised to allow for up to 20 minutes of additional travel time and to expect crowded stations and bus stops during this period.

However, LTA has stated that train frequencies for the remainder of the EWL will remain unaffected.

It also encouraged the use of the Downtown Line, which will continue to operate normally in the area.

For more information, members of the public can refer to the LTA website.
