The incident took place at Billion Food Point in Ang Mo Kio Street 65’s Techpoint.

It’s not confirmed when it occurred, although in the post, she said it happened “recently”.

According to the woman, Ms Lim, she and two of her colleagues purchased three hot drinks there during lunchtime.

Around five minutes after sitting down at their table with their drinks, the glass held by one of her female colleagues suddenly ‘exploded’ in her hand.

The glass mug shattered, with shards scattering onto the table and floor. She added that the spoon was flung away as well.

The hot tea reportedly spilt onto her colleague’s top and skirt, along with “glass particles” catching in her clothing.

Ms Lim described the three of them as “shell-shocked” by the incident, which caused them to leave the premises. They also subsequently sent their colleague home to change.

As such, she did not lodge a complaint to the stall vendor immediately after the incident.

Afterwards, Ms Lim said she could not find a contact for Billion Food Point so she emailed Capitaland instead on the same day. Capitaland manages Techpoint.

She had not received a reply by the time she created the Facebook post.

Woman urges action from drinks stall owner

Ms Lim called it “a very serious issue” and stated that the drinks stall owner needed to take action before further incidents occurred.

In the comments, Ms Lim said she hoped to create more awareness, as they got lucky that the shattering hurt nobody.

She pointed out that such incidents could result in glass shards piercing unlucky customers the next time a mug explodes.

Other commenters claimed that this was a freak accident outside of the stall vendor’s control.

“A small hairline crack that we can’t see can cause [the glass] to break,” explained a netizen.
