Grab, the ride-hailing app that entered Singapore in 2013, is a godsend for those of us who are constantly late for our appointments.
Besides its competitive pricing, the app also allows users to accumulate points when using their services.
However on Tuesday (21 Jan), Grab announced changes to the reward programme. that will see users will earning lesser points per dollar spent. On top of that, more points will be required to earn vouchers.
Currently, users earn at least 5 points per dollar spent when they use GrabPay to make purchases. Users earn more points per dollar spent when they climb up the member tier, with the maximum capped at 10 points per dollar.

With the change, there will be a 60% decrease in points earned per dollar spent.
Points will not be given for cash transactions as well.
According to Grab’s press statement, these changes will take effect from 2 Mar.
Grab users will have to earn more points to redeem rewards under the revised programme.
According to Channel NewsAsia, the current plan requires 500 points, 2,200 points and 4,200 points to enjoy $1, $5 and $10 off Grab rides and Grabfood deliveries. Although more points will be needed, the rewards will remain the same.
Additionally, users will “soon be able to earn GrabRewards points” at more than 53 million places worldwide and even online with the GrabPay Mastercard.
Grab will be introducing GrabRewards Flash Sale events where users can redeem rewards while saving up to 50%.
The first flash sale will take place between 21 Jan and 3 Feb.

Many netizens are unhappy over the new changes since the rewards will be harder to attain.
Some pointed out that even drivers had lesser benefits than they used to as well.
The new plan will be in place on 2 Mar, so spend your points before that if you prefer the old plan.
