As the search for the victim’s family comes to a close, their heartbreaking story comes to light, as The Straits Times (ST) reveals more about Mr Phang Wei Sum.

The sole breadwinner of his family, his passing dealt them a very hard blow.

GrabFood rider delivered food part-time

Food delivery wasn’t Mr Phang’s first occupation, according to the article by ST.

Originally a full-time employee at an electronic engineering company, the 42-year-old started working for GrabFood about a month ago to add on to his family’s income.

This was after his wife had fallen ill and couldn’t afford to continue working.

Had been working in Singapore for 10 years

A native to Ipoh, Malaysia, Mr Phang had been working in Singapore for over 10 years before his death, and became a Permanent Resident (PR).

His relentless dedication over the decade proves his wife’s point that he was “a good husband and father” who “cared a lot for his family”.

He leaves behind his wife and 11 year-old-daughter.

Fortunately for them, GrabFood is offering support in the wake of Mr Phang’s death.

Rest in peace, Mr Phang

Mr Phang’s family had collected his body yesterday (21 Dec) morning and will send it to Ipoh for final rites.

We wish his wife and daughter the best and hope they’ll find the strength to get through the pain.

MS News extends our sincere condolences to the late Mr Phang’s family and friends.
