Punggol Resident Leaves Hand Sanitiser In Lift For Public, Neighbours Make It A Pay-It-Forward Initiative

Punggol Neighbours Start Pay-It-Forward Initiative, Provide Free Medical Supplies In Lift

A pay-it-forward movement hinges on the idea that we benefit from the person before us and give back by helping the person after us. One such movement is brewing in the most unexpected of places — a HDB lift in Punggol.

Following the example of a fellow neighbour, the residents of 267B Punggol Field started to place health supplies in the lift.

Ranging from face masks to alcohol swaps, these products are all generously provided for public use.

The residents’ kind actions fuels our resilience as a community, helping us better combat the Wuhan virus.

Punggol pay-it-forward initiative started by 1 individual

In this Facebook post, a user gives us a glimpse of what this heartwarming initiative is about.

This wholesome activity started when one individual from the block left a bottle of hand sanitiser on the railings of the lift.

Accompanying it is a hand-written post-it note that reminds everyone to disinfect their hands before going home.

Those who benefitted from the kind act thanked the neighbour by ‘donating’ their own stash of face masks and alcohol swaps.

In no time, the lift is sufficiently stocked up with medical supplies for those who need it, almost like a mini pharmacy.

Encouraging more people to join in Punggol lift initiative

Residents are also sending messages of love and hope to thank one another, restoring some hope in this trying time.

They also urge more people to join in the effort, by taking what they need and in turn, sharing their extra supplies.

Hope we will see similar pay-it-forward initiatives in other spaces

By kindly lookout for strangers around them, the community gains a valuable bond — a true kampung spirit that is increasingly rare these days.

This story also serves as an inspiration to Singaporeans and a reminder to always be generous to the people around us.

Perhaps, we might see more pay-it-forward initiatives gaining momentum in public spaces.
