While Singapore’s tropical climate brings lush greenery to the island cityscape, the combination of sweltering heat and high humidity plagues citizens all year round.
One netizen found themselves frustrated with this issue, posing a question on Reddit asking for help to avoid sweating in the morning.
While sweat is generally unavoidable, some users provided suggestions on how to mitigate the icky situation.
In a post on r/askSingapore, the Original Poster (OP) asked: “How to avoid sweating in the morning after showering?”
The OP shares that she likes to shower in the morning because it “freshens” them up for the day.

To get to the MRT station, she takes a 15-minute walk from her home. By the time she reaches the station, she is “drenched in sweat”.
She said: “Even after a few stops in the MRT, I’ll still have sweat droplets down my face.”

Additionally, she clarifies that she is a middle-aged lady who doesn’t wear a singlet or innerwear.
Thus, it becomes “highly embarrassing” when her back is “entirely wet”.

“I also feel icky, which negates the freshness of having showered,” she added.
Upon reading the OP’s “plight”, netizens came up with a bunch of suggestions based on their own experiences.
Most netizens suggested the OP “get ready slowly” or “don’t rush” the morning routine.

Some provided “cooler” alternatives, including a handheld fan, wet wipes and taking cold showers.

A few said to take the bus to avoid walking the long mile.
One netizen even gave “counterintuitive” advice, telling the OP to take a hot shower instead due to the “theory of equilibrium”.

In an update to the post, the OP shared her gratitude for the “thoughtful responses” to her question, adding it is “good to know [that] this is a common problem”.
While taking the bus to the MRT is not an option for her, the OP said she will try to adopt a few suggestions.
According to the OP, she plans to shower early and with cold water, which she is not looking forward to, and use handheld fans and body wipes to cool herself down.
She ends on a positive outlook, saying: “Hope that with these, I’ll contribute to a nice-smelling environment on our morning MRT commutes!”
