Domestic helper in Hong Kong arrested for putting boys into dog cage

An Indonesian domestic helper in Hong Kong was arrested by police after she allegedly put two boys under her care into a dog cage.

According to The Standard, police were first alerted to the case on Tuesday (28 April) after the boys’ mum came to file a report.

Had put boys into dog cage on two separate occasions

Police say the mum became concerned after the home’s security camera footage revealed her two younger boys, aged two and three, inside a dog cage.

The first incident occurred on 13 Feb while she was away from home. She initially did not report the incident out of fear that the 32-year-old helper would harm her children.

But on 21 Feb, while she was out again, she spotted one of her children once again placed in a dog cage while the helper was using her mobile phone nearby.

This then prompted her to escalate her concerns.

Arrested on suspicion of child abuse

She consulted the employment agency from which she had hired the domestic helper. The helper had been with the family since July 2023.

They advised her to turn to the police, after which the mum finally reported the case on 28 April.

Officers arrested the helper for “ill-treatment or neglect by those in charge of child or young person”.

Meanwhile, the two boys were taken to the hospital for examination. They had no visible injuries.
