Johor May Deny Entry To S’porean Drivers With Overdue Fines After Massive Checkpoints Jam

Johor May Deny Entry To Foreign Drivers With Unpaid Fines

Singapore began cracking down on foreign motorists with overdue fines on Monday (1 Apr) and the uproar was no April Fool’s joke.

Congestion at both the Tuas and Woodlands checkpoints were “worse than usual”, according to a report by The Straits Times.

In light of Malaysians’ complaints, Malaysian police announced on Monday that they are considering doing the same to Singaporean motorists.

Basically, Malaysia wants to do the same to us

Authorities discussing possibility

According to a witness, traffic slowed to a crawl as drivers stopped to pay their fines, while those who couldn’t had to turn back.

The congestion was mainly on Johor’s end, which explains why Malaysian authorities are upset.

Royal Malaysia Police revealed that they are in talks with local traffic departments about viable actions to take.

They made it clear that they might very well stop foreign motorists with outstanding fines from entering Malaysia.

Outcome not clear yet

If the Malaysian authorities really follow through with their plans, it could spell trouble for Singaporeans who may have unpaid fines and have to travel to Malaysia often.

But for now, the outcome remains unclear, so don’t cancel your road trip just yet.
